victoria's Story I first became interested in coding during my studies in wildlife biology, particularly when I was introduced to bioinformatics. As I began working with large datasets—such as genetic sequences and species distribution models; I realized that coding was not just a technical skill, but a powerful tool for discovery and conservation. My first experience writing scripts in R to analyze genetic diversity in endangered species sparked my curiosity and excitement. It felt empowering to translate raw biological data into meaningful insights that could support decision-making in conservation. What began as a necessity in bioinformatics quickly grew into a genuine passion. I was fascinated by how even simple code could automate complex tasks, visualize patterns in ecological data, and help make informed, data-driven conclusions. The more I learned, the more I wanted to build my technical skills and explore the broader possibilities of coding beyond research. Now, I’m eager to expand into areas like web development and data visualization, where I can make wildlife science more accessible to both researchers and the public. Coding has become a bridge between my love for nature and my desire to solve real-world problems using technology.

🙋‍♀️ victoria's Motivation

My motivation for learning how to code with SheCodes stems from a strong desire to merge my background in wildlife conservation with the power of technology. Throughout my work in the field, I’ve witnessed how digital tools and data can significantly improve conservation outcomes—whether through tracking animal movements, analyzing ecological data, or building platforms to engage the public in environmental efforts. However, I’ve also seen a gap between the science and the tech that supports it. Learning to code will allow me to bridge that gap and contribute more effectively to the causes I care about. SheCodes offers an inclusive, beginner-friendly learning environment that empowers women to gain practical coding skills, which makes it the ideal platform for someone like me transitioning into tech. By acquiring coding skills, I hope to create tools that support wildlife research, improve conservation communication, and make environmental data more accessible. I’m particularly interested in learning how to build websites, analyze data, and create interactive maps or dashboards. This opportunity will not only advance my career but also enable me to make a greater impact in protecting wildlife and ecosystems. I’m excited to grow with SheCodes and apply these skills for good.

The Delac Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The Delac Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
