Tsion's Story My initial interest in coding blossomed from a challenging, yet ultimately rewarding, experience during my first year at boarding school, which was 3 years ago. Students here work harder than any student in my town. Therefore, the competition is fierce, and no one is willing to share any information with you or help you with your assignments. The first year was tough for me for different reasons. Then, our ICT teacher gave us an assignments to create random projects using HTML, CSS, and JS. I remember staying up till 11 pm trying to figure out ideas from YouTube videos for coding, but since it was my first time seeing such things, my brain could barely stay with it. After three sleepless nights, I was able to code and submit my project on time, which was a currency converter website. It wasn't that good, but it was my first! That's when I promised myself that I'd go study and help other students in my batch. Thanks to God, I did that quite few times now. Although I'm not an expert, at least I'm not the worst.

🙋‍♀️ Tsion's Motivation

As a teenager who has a great interest in technology, I am motivated to join SheCodes to be a small part of this positive change. Growing up in small town of Ethiopia I've witnessed the disproportionate burdens placed on young women. Especially when it comes to technology and computer, almost all of the opportunities was given to men. I strongly disagree and I believe that we, Women have also the intelligence to deal with technology. And Coding can empower us to create innovative solutions and level the playing field. I'm determined to contribute to solving complex issues in my society. I also want to develop open-access apps and platforms providing financial literacy resources and connecting people with opportunities. SheCodes is the perfect launch for my dreams The intensive nature and focused curriculum of the program will also allow me to become a competent coder. Furthermore, being able to learn from experienced instructors and connect with a supportive community of women in this industry is worth the price of effort. By investing in my potential through SheCodes Plus, you're empowering me to become a change agent, inspiring other Ethiopian girls and contributing to a brighter future for my country.

🤹‍♀️ Tsion's Hobbies

My creative outlet is lies on my twin passions of fashion design and nurturing real connections. I enjoy sketching futuristic dress designs and contemplating form and function on paper. Besides, I'm a close friend to many and one of the people they call upon when seeking a sympathetic ear and thoughtful advice.
