Sebabatso's Story I first became interested in coding out of curiosity and a desire to understand how technology works behind the scenes. As I explored digital tools for work and personal projects, I became fascinated by how websites, apps, and online systems are created—and how much impact they have on our daily lives. My interest grew even stronger when I was introduced to cybersecurity. I took a short foundational course with Cisco, and it opened my eyes to how important coding is in protecting data, preventing cyber threats, and keeping digital systems secure. Understanding the basics of cybersecurity made me want to learn coding so I could build safe, efficient, and reliable digital solutions. Seeing how coding skills connect with cybersecurity, problem-solving, and global opportunities inspired me to take the learning process seriously. Even without ideal resources, I pushed myself to explore tutorials and beginner concepts, realizing how much I enjoy it. Coding excites me because it allows me to create, protect, and innovate—skills that are essential in today's digital world. That’s what sparked my interest, and it continues to motivate me every day.

My motivation for joining SheCodes comes from a deep desire to create stability, independence, and long-term career growth for myself. Technology is one of the few fields where skills truly open doors globally, and learning to code will give me the opportunity to build a sustainable career regardless of my background or circumstances. I’m especially inspired by SheCodes because it empowers women with practical, industry-aligned skills. I want to be part of a community where women support each other, learn together, and break into a field that is full of opportunities. Coding also appeals to me because I enjoy problem-solving, creativity, and building things that can make life easier for people. Even without a perfect laptop or ideal environment, I’ve continued to push myself to learn—showing my determination and hunger to grow. Learning to code with SheCodes will help me transform my career, increase my digital skills, and gain the confidence to work remotely in the global tech industry. It’s a chance for me to change my future, support myself, and eventually give back by helping other women do the same.

In my free time, I enjoy activities that help me learn, grow, and stay grounded. One of my favourite things to do is explore online courses—especially anything related to technology, cybersecurity, human rights, and personal development. I love discovering new skills and expanding my knowledge. I also enjoy reading, especially books and articles that inspire me or teach me something new. Creativity is important to me too, so I spend time designing on Canva, journaling, and working on my children’s book project. To relax, I like listening to music, praying or meditating, and taking quiet moments to reflect. I also enjoy spending quality time with family, especially my niece, who always inspires me. Overall, my hobbies help me stay balanced, creative, and connected to my purpose.

Sebabatso's coding training

She'll learn popular technologies, from HTML, CSS, JavaScript and development tools. She'll also get to build her own online portfolio to showcase to potential employers!
