Sakshi's Story My coding journey started unexpectedly during my first semester at NIT Raipur. Like most Electrical Engineering students, I was focused on circuits, calculus, and physics—coding wasn't even on my radar beyond the basic C++ course we had to take. But then something shifted. In our introductory programming class, we were building simple programs, and I remember the exact moment it clicked—I wrote a small program that solved a problem, and seeing it work felt like magic. It wasn't just about memorizing formulas or following predetermined steps like in other subjects. With coding, I was creating something from scratch, and the only limit was my logic and creativity. I got curious and started exploring beyond our curriculum. I discovered web development through YouTube tutorials, and the idea that I could build actual applications that people could use fascinated me. I built my first project—a simple Tic Tac Toe game using React—and I was hooked. There's something incredibly satisfying about starting with a blank screen and ending with a functional, interactive application. What really sealed my interest was realizing the impact coding could have. Coming from a family with financial constraints, I saw coding as more than just a hobby—it was a viable career path with real opportunities. Software engineers are in demand, the field offers remote work flexibility, and most importantly, it's a skill I could learn independently without expensive equipment or labs. I also noticed how few women around me were pursuing coding seriously, especially outside of Computer Science. That made me more determined. I wanted to prove that you don't need to be in CS to become a great developer, and that women from any background can excel in tech. Now, almost a year later, I've built multiple projects—a Weather App, a Password Manager, even a Machine Learning-based Rockfall Prediction system. Each project teaches me something new and makes me more certain that software development is what I want to do long-term. What started as curiosity in a first-semester programming class has become my career goal and passion.

🙋‍♀️ Sakshi's Motivation

I come from a family with limited income supporting three siblings. After 12th grade, I took a drop year to crack JEE because a government college was our only affordable option for quality education. That year taught me resilience and strategic planning—I got into NIT Raipur, where I'm now studying Electrical Engineering. But somewhere during my first year, I discovered coding, and everything clicked. I started teaching myself web development—built a Weather App, a Password Manager with React, a Tic Tac Toe game, even a Machine Learning-based Rockfall Prediction prototype. I was hooked. The problem? Learning from random YouTube tutorials and free resources only takes you so far. I don't know industry best practices, professional code standards, or how to build production-ready applications. I'm missing the structure that would make me job-ready. That's why I need SheCodes. It's not just another coding course—it's exactly what I need: structured curriculum, real-world projects, responsive design, React mastery, and a community of women who get it. I can't afford premium courses, but I'm determined to become a Software Engineer and create financial stability for my family. As a woman in engineering, I see how few of us pursue tech careers. I want to change that narrative—not just for myself, but for every girl from a small city or non-CS background who thinks coding isn't for her. Now I need the right training to turn my passion into a career. SheCodes will bridge the gap between my self-taught skills and professional expertise. This isn't just about learning to code—it's about transforming my future, supporting my family, and proving that determination and the right opportunity can overcome any barrier.

🤹‍♀️ Sakshi's Hobbies

Outside of coding, I enjoy dancing, listening to music, and running. I love expressing myself through dance and finding inspiration in different genres of music, which helps me stay creative and energized. Running and participating in athletics have taught me discipline, focus, and perseverance—qualities I also apply to my coding projects. These hobbies help me maintain balance, stay motivated, and approach challenges with both determination and a positive mindset. I'm also an Executive Member of Nrityam—The Dance Club at NIT Raipur, where I've been involved in organizing cultural programs and contributing to choreography and performances. Dance has always been my creative outlet, and being part of the club has taught me teamwork, coordination, and the importance of practice and preparation—skills that translate directly to collaborative coding projects. Additionally, I'm a cadet in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at NIT Raipur, which keeps me physically active and mentally disciplined. The drills, parades, and leadership activities have instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility and time management, which is crucial when balancing academics, coding projects, and extracurriculars. These activities aren't just hobbies—they're what keep me grounded and energized. When I'm stuck on a bug or feeling overwhelmed with coursework, a dance session or a quick run clears my mind and helps me return to my work with fresh perspective. I believe staying well-rounded makes me a better coder and a more balanced person overall.
