mary's Story I first became interested in coding when I realized the incredible power technology has to solve real-world problems. As someone deeply involved in community work—especially around youth empowerment, mental health, and sustainability—I noticed that many of the challenges we face could be addressed through innovative digital solutions. My curiosity grew as I saw others create apps and platforms that improved access to education, health services, and economic opportunities. I wanted to understand how they did it and be able to build similar tools myself. My interest was further sparked by attending tech-focused workshops and networking with women in STEM who shared their journeys into coding. Seeing their impact motivated me to explore coding not just as a skill, but as a way to make a meaningful difference. I realized that learning to code could amplify my voice and efforts, allowing me to create scalable, data-driven solutions for the communities I serve. That’s when I knew I wanted to pursue coding as both a creative outlet and a force for social change.

🙋‍♀️ mary's Motivation

My motivation for learning how to code with SheCodes stems from a deep desire to empower myself and others through technology. As a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, mental health, and climate change, I believe coding is a powerful tool that can be used to create innovative solutions to the challenges faced by marginalized communities. By gaining coding skills, I will be better equipped to develop digital platforms, apps, and tools that promote education, awareness, and access to essential services. SheCodes offers a supportive, inclusive environment tailored for women, and I’m inspired by the opportunity to join a global community of like-minded individuals. I want to challenge the gender gap in tech by becoming a role model for other girls in my community, showing them that they too can thrive in STEM. Learning to code will also enhance my professional versatility, enabling me to contribute to social enterprises and startups with both technical and strategic insights. Ultimately, I want to use technology to drive meaningful change and make a lasting impact in the world.

🤹‍♀️ mary's Hobbies

I enjoy reading inspirational books, mentoring young people, and exploring creative problem-solving through design thinking. For fun, I love nature walks, attending community events, and journaling. I also enjoy learning new skills online, especially those that help me support social causes and empower others in meaningful, engaging ways.

The Delac Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The Delac Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
