Marwa's Story My journey to becoming interested in coding started with my curiosity about technology and a desire to understand how things work. Growing up, I saw how smartphones and computers brought the outside world closer, providing access to knowledge and perspectives I couldn’t find anywhere else. But I wanted to do more than just use technology; I wanted to understand and create it. I started to wonder how websites, apps, and digital tools were built and wanted to be part of this world that connected people and shared ideas. Then I came across stories of women in technology, especially women from backgrounds like mine who used coding to make a difference. Hearing about their journeys inspired me and showed me that, despite the challenges, it was possible for Afghan girls to learn and work in tech. I began to imagine how I could use coding to contribute to my community—whether by creating websites to share Afghan culture, building educational tools, or helping others gain access to information. That inspiration, combined with the realization of technology’s potential to create change, sparked my passion for coding and motivated me to start learning.

🙋‍♀️ Marwa's Motivation

As an Afghan girl, my motivation for learning to code with SheCodes is deeply connected to my desire for independence, empowerment, and the ability to create opportunities for myself and my community. In a country where access to education and career paths can be limited for women, coding represents a way to overcome these barriers. It’s a skill that allows me to connect with the global tech world without needing to leave my home, giving me a voice and a platform in an industry where I can make a real impact. Technology has the power to bridge gaps and create change, and by learning to code, I can work on projects that address issues facing Afghan communities, especially those impacting women and girls. SheCodes’ supportive and inclusive environment makes me feel that I’m not alone in this journey; I’m part of a global network of women who believe in equality, independence, and opportunity for all. Ultimately, coding will give me the skills to shape my future and the confidence to inspire others. It’s more than just a career path; it’s a step toward a world where Afghan women can contribute fully, creatively, and independently.

🤹‍♀️ Marwa's Hobbies

As an Afghan woman, I enjoy embroidery and traditional crafts, which connect me to my heritage. I also love cooking Afghan dishes like mantu and qabili palau, sharing these meals with loved ones. Reading and spending time with family bring me peace and joy, making each day meaningful.

The Delac Foundation Mission

Women hold only 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less than men. In many developing countries, over 65% of women lack bank accounts, making it difficult to invest in their education.

The Delac Foundation is changing that. We provide women in developing countries with free coding education, equipping them with the skills to build a better future. In partnership with SheCodes, we offer training in product development, design, and management, empowering women to thrive in the tech industry.
