Esparance's Story I first became interested in coding during a time when adaptability and resilience were crucial for me as a refugee. Being forced to leave my home country and navigate a new environment presented me with challenges, but it also exposed me to the transformative power of technology. During my displacement, I found solace in using technology to connect with others and access information. It was through these digital tools that I realized the immense impact that coding could have on creating solutions and opportunities. I saw coding as a universal language that transcended borders and backgrounds, enabling individuals to communicate, learn, and collaborate. The turning point came when I witnessed how technology was being used to address humanitarian issues. From apps helping refugees find essential services to platforms facilitating remote education, I was inspired by the potential of coding to make a positive impact on the lives of displaced people like me. I began to delve into coding resources available online, even with limited access to resources. Learning the basics became a way for me to regain a sense of control and autonomy, despite the challenges I was facing. The more I learned, the more I recognized coding as a pathway to self-empowerment and a tool for contributing to my community, even from a distance. As I continue to rebuild my life in a new place, I'm driven by the idea that coding can open doors to meaningful opportunities and bridge gaps. It's a skill that can transcend my refugee experience and empower me to contribute positively to both the tech industry and the broader community. Coding, for me, is not only about building websites or applications; it's about using technology to bring about change and create a brighter future. My journey as a refugee has uniquely shaped my perspective on the transformative potential of coding, and I'm excited to continue learning and growing in this field.
